I was having a discussion about using Google's Adsense with a friend, and he asked how much had I earned. I popped over to the Adsense site and took a look. Since I started back in August 26th 2004, I have earned a whopping.. wait for it... wait for it... $3.10. Go ahead and take a moment to laugh; I'll wait.
It makes me chuckle every time I see it too. From looking at their reports, my best day ever earned Google just a hair under $300 and me $0.90. It's safe to say that from my current trend that I'll never get rich from blogging. As I told my friend, I might see some money by the time my kids are driving (which by then I'll probably need all the extra money I can muster).
So, why do I do it? For one, I'm not a very consistent blogger. My posts seem to come in spurts. A few here. Nothing for a while. A couple there. Nothing for a while. No, I'm not one for consistency. For another matter, do I really want all my ramblings out on the web? Probably not. What will happen some day if my kids stumble across this site in the future? "Huh, Dad really was a goofball." Although I'm sure they'll already know that for a fact. I guess the biggest reason that I sometimes slap my thoughts down on virtual paper is because it helps. Helps what? It helps get my creative juices going, sort of like priming the pump if you will. It helps to also just blow of some steam.
So if you want to read about some poor slob's ramblings, I'll see what I can continue to do. Maybe some day my lottery numbers will win, and I'll end up with something far more interesting to write about. Maybe I'll get better at doing this, and I'll actually type something worthwhile. Hrm.... Nah, I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery.
