More Melrose Place with Heather Locklear?

I'll admit it: I did watch a few episodes of "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hills, 90210" back in the day. No, I wasn't a closet addict to either series, but there were times when nothing else was on. Anyhow, why in the world are these shows being brought back? 90210 is already on the air with who-knows-what kind of ratings (I'm sure someone knows though). Why bring back Melrose Place also? Nostalgia? Lack of creativity?

The more that I think about the idea, the more I realize there might be some method to their madness. Melrose Place was fairly popular back in its day. If you bring it back with some of the original cast members, the producers can guarantee some portion of the original viewers will likely tune in just to see what's what.

That's probably the easy part. The hard part is capturing a newer generation of viewers. How do you do that? By making the series relevant to today. This also makes it tricky because you don't want to run off too many of the fans of the original series. I say "too many" because there will inevitably be those who won't like the new series.

If my reasoning proves true, various TV primetime slots are bound to be filled up with even more of these "returning" shows. This can be good (Battlestar Galactica anyone?), or it can bring back some zombies that need to stay in their video graves.
