Being sick sucks. Not the most elegant way to put it, but sucks is suck an all-encompassing word that brings all those crappy feelings together in such a tidy, little package that it works.
One of my college roommates loved to debate about what he referred to as dumbing down the english language. Catch words and phrases, while serving to create a quick way of expressing your feelings, would as often as not take some of the flair out of our language. Sure, a swear word might really sum up what you were trying to say, but they are also imprecise. That was biggest part of his argument that I can remember. My best response was something along the lines of, "So if you are crossing a street and there's a car about to run you down, do you say, 'Oh dear, there is a car hurtling towards me with great speed, and I am certain to meet my doom!' or something more like, 'Oh sh*t!!!'?"
