From The Screensavers to Time Machines

You can probably tell that I need to update my links. The one to "The Screensavers" is now one of those junky placeholders for please-buy-this-domain sites. Horrible. Pathetic.

What's the big deal? The Screensavers used to be a show on TechTV that covered ... urmm, well all things tech. They had segments on PC repair, gaming, gadgets, Photoshop, and lots of other interesting stuff (to me anyway). The show died off after the channel merged with G4, and it exists somewhat as Attack of the Show -- not really though.

It's sad for it to have fallen to a stupid placeholder. Maybe I'm just too sentimental. It does stir up the question of what will eventually happen to various websites and blogs. Sometimes I wonder if my kids or grandkids might trace back my ramblings through the internet and get to know me through that.

We have a genealogy room here at the library, and I wonder if internet posts will become some type of digital genealogy research. They would probably gain some type of understanding through reading these posts. I doubt anyone would consider it a complete understanding though. People change too much through their lives. These words that I'm typing are at best a snapshot of how I am/was at whatever time the timestamp shows. A virtual time machine if you will. I can buy into that sentiment, because I have read things that I wrote years earlier and discover a half-remembered stranger. "Woah, I sorta remember writing and thinking that, but in a way its like meeting an old acquaintance after many years."
